Heimsheim, Germany – March 20, 2025 – Rapid Shape, a global leader in digital automated solutions for aligner model production, officially unveils the next-generation RS Inline 3.0 at IDS Cologne. This cutting-edge system delivers a fully automated, high-capacity production workflow for dental applications, capable of printing up to 7,000 models within 24 hours—setting a new industry standard in efficiency and scalability.
Addressing Industry Challenges with Advanced Automation
With a growing demand for cost-effective dental treatments and a shortage of skilled labor in dental technology, the RS Inline 3.0 is designed to streamline production while minimizing manual intervention. Its modular end-to-end system enables seamless fabrication of aligner models, high-resolution master models, indirect bonding trays, dentures, and more.
The RS Inline 3.0 integrates between three to six Rapid Shape D90+ and D100+ 3D printers, each equipped with an Automatic Resin Refill System, ensuring uninterrupted 3D printing. This scalable setup allows laboratories and production sites to expand from a single printer to a full six-printer configuration, all connected to a centralized post-processing station.
Next-Level 3D Printing Automation: From Print File to Finished Product
The automated workflow starts with the RS Production Control (RSPC) system, which automates print job preparation, including nesting, slicing, printer load balancing and real-time job monitoring. The system manages multiple 3D printers and production centers simultaneously with no manual intervention and is streamlined to achieve maximum efficiency.
As each print job finishes, the Rapid Shape patented Automatic Separation Module (ASM) removes print jobs from the build platform to move along an automated conveyor to be delivered to a robotic arm for post-processing. The built-in sieves collect excess resin throughout this process, minimizing resin waste. The conveyor then delivers prints to a robotic arm, which seamlessly executes post-processing—cleaning models in a centrifuge, curing them in a vacuum curing unit, and positioning them at the final delivery station—all without manual intervention.
Proven Success: Liberty Dental Group Leads the Way
As one of the first customers to implement the RS Inline 3.0 in March 2025, Orthoproof part of Excent under the Liberty Dental Group, based in Houten, Netherlands, produces up to 1000 different kinds of orthodontic models per day, supplying orthodontist offices across Europe. The RS Inline 3.0 has addressed a critical challenge in their production process. “By implementing the RS Inline 3.0 automated robotized production workflow, our customers rest assured that timely delivery of high-quality orthodontic appliances are being guaranteed,” said a Rik Jacobs, VP Digital Workflows at Liberty Dental Group. This innovative solution ensures seamless scaling and reliability, setting a new benchmark for efficiency & predictability in high-volume dental manufacturing.”
Scalable, Consistent, and Sustainable 3D Printing Production
The RS Inline 3.0 offers unmatched flexibility, allowing users to work with different resins simultaneously, as each printer operates independently. The automated post-processing system ensures high-quality, repeatable results. The integrated centrifuge provides fast, clean prints while collecting residual resin for minimal material waste. Optional IPA cleaning can be introduced for enhanced process safety, depending on resin type.
With RS Inline 3.0, Rapid Shape sets a new benchmark for fully automated, high-throughput aligner model production—empowering dental labs and manufacturers to scale effortlessly while maintaining superior quality and efficiency.
